These FAQs are here to help you understand what's changed, what you need to do, and how to manage your notifications after you sign in using GOV.UK One Login.
Whether you're a new or existing user, these answers will guide you through the transition.
What's changed?
How you sign in to the NSI notification service has changed.
You now need to sign in using GOV.UK One Login. If you don't already have a GOV.UK One Login, you'll need to create one.
What is GOV.UK One Login?
GOV.UK One Login lets you sign in to government services using the same email address and password.
In the future, you’ll be able to use it to access all services on GOV.UK

Will I be guided through the process?
Yes. The first time you sign in with GOV.UK One Login, you'll be guided through the steps.
You'll also be asked to add your first name and last name to complete your user profile.
What do I need to create a GOV.UK One Login?
You’ll need:
- an email address (we recommend using your work email if you’re using the service for work)
- a way to get security codes – either an authenticator app or a mobile phone number
It takes a few minutes to create a GOV.UK One Login.
Can I use an existing GOV.UK One Login?
Yes. If you already use GOV.UK One Login for another government service, you can use it to sign into the NSI notification service.
If you want a separate GOV.UK One Login for the NSI notification service, you can create one using a different email address.
What if I use a personal email address with GOV.UK One Login?
If you’re using the NSI notification service for work, you may want to create a new GOV.UK One Login with your work email.
You can have more than one GOV.UK One Login.
Should I use the same email address as my current NSI notification service account?
Using the same email address for GOV.UK One Login can make the process simpler, but it's not essential.
I’m having problems signing up to GOV.UK Login. What should I do?
- Check that your email, password, and security code are entered correctly.
- If problem continues, contact the GOV.UK One Login team here.
I had an account before GOV.UK One Login. Can I access my old notifications?
The option to transfer notifications is no longer available on the service.
If you need access to notifications from your old account, contact the ISU IT support team at isuitsupport@cabinetoffice.gov.uk.
Why are some of my notifications missing from the dashboard?
Notifications may have been deleted according to the retention policy.
- Rejected notifications after 60 days
- Accepted notifications after 240 days
- In-progress notifications if not updated for 60 days
You can view basic information about deleted notifications in the 'Archived notifications' section. Editing or submitting these notifications will no longer be possible.

Can I share notifications with people in different organisations?
Yes. You can now share notifications with anyone using the NSI notification service. This makes collaboration with people outside your organisation easier.
They must have a GOV.UK One Login and have used it to sign into the NSI notification service.

Is GOV.UK One Login safe?
Yes. The GOV.UK One Login service is designed to be secure.
To help keep your account safe:
- create a strong password using 3 random words - you can include numbers, symbols or spaces
- don’t reuse passwords
- keep your password private
